4 TexasHealthHuguley.org New critical care tower set to receive first patient An expansion project that will help Texas Health Huguley meet the growing region’s need for healthcare is set to reach a milestone on January 24. That’s when the hospital expects to welcome the first patient to the new critical care tower. In February 2022, crews broke ground on the fourstory patient tower that will double the size of the emergency department and provide additional space for the critical care unit. The expansion project is a $75 million investment in the community as more and more patients seek healthcare services. A larger emergency department will provide more capacity and enhanced patient experiences. “We’re excited to have that additional space and to be able to serve our community as it continues to grow,” says Chief Nursing Officer Tammy Ellis. New, advanced technology will enhance the quality of care in the ICU. One example is a new patient lifting system for safe patient transfers. The ICU and its highly specialized team will continue to have state-of-the-art bedside monitoring, ventilators and other 24-hour intensive care tools. New dining space, plus room for growth In addition to an expanded emergency room and new ICU, the new tower will have a spacious dining area for patients, visitors and team members. “It will have a bright and cheery atmosphere where people can relax and enjoy their meals,” Tammy says. Two shelled-out floors provide additional space for future expansion projects to help meet tomorrow’s needs. The 108,000-square-foot expansion isn’t just a growth strategy. “We have a heart for caring for our community, and we knew that it was time to do something different,” Tammy says. “We saw a need to make sure our patients had the best place to come and get their healthcare and feel really good about the care they received.” Get the latest updates Visit TexasHealthHuguley.org/LetsGrow.
