Fall 2024 5 A picture of health: Advanced imaging close to home When your doctor orders a medical imaging test, you want the latest technology and a skilled team for an accurate diagnosis. You’ll find these things and more at Texas Health Huguley Hospital. The facility is home to advanced imaging options, including: Bone density scans. Bone densitometry uses low doses of X-rays to measure bone density for the early detection of osteoporosis, a bone-thinning disease. CT scans. CT uses X-rays and computers to create detailed, cross-sectioned images of the body that can be viewed as 3D slices. Texas Health Huguley can scan the heart’s arteries for calcium buildup, which can be a marker for heart disease risk. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI scanners use magnets and radio waves to capture images of the body. Each of Texas Health Huguley’s three scanners has a large opening, which helps patients feel comfortable. Nuclear medicine. Radioactive tracers are used to assess organ function and diagnose and treat diseases. Providers at Texas Health Huguley even use nuclear brain scans to help evaluate people for Lewy body dementia. Interventional radiology (IR). Specialists use imaging and minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat conditions. For instance, IR experts guide biopsies, remove clots from arteries and more. Lung cancer screening. If you’re a current or former smoker, you may qualify for a yearly lung cancer screening with a low-dose CT chest scan. Screenings are available year-round. In addition, Texas Health Huguley will offer free lung screenings to eligible first responders and military personnel for two weekends during November. Call 817.551.2787 to learn more.
